Algae as Potential Fuel Source
With the constant escalation of fuel prices, there have been several researches made to address the world’s constant demand of energy to fuel vehicles. Recent studies have shown that an emerald-green crude oil can be produced through photosynthesis in genetically modified algae that are placed in tanks of treated wastewater and exposed to sunlight.
As a matter of fact, Sapphire Energy – the developer of this product – has already refined the green crude and is now planning to generate 10,000 barrels every day within five years. Considering its advantages, algae grows much faster and requires less space when compared to conventional energy crops which would be much helpful if had been retained as food. Furthermore, if planned carefully with due consideration of its possible benefits and threats, the algae oil alternative poses a great answer toward the existing onset of decreasing global oil production.
