During the 2008 presidential election polls in the USA, electronic media, especially the Internet, played a leading role in bringing the election results to the national and international viewers.  Websites belonging to big companies such as CNN, ABC and MSNBC registered record-shattering page views by its users.  Election returns had enthused the viewers here and overseas to such an extent.

On the election night in the USA, the figures had it that over seventy million people had viewed election returns on cable television and webs.  The contest between Democrat Barack Obama and republican John McCain for the presidency had generated such intense interest in the people that every viewership record has been broken.

There is absolutely no doubt that people used cable TV and websites of leading news companies to watch election returns though the Nielsen Media research don’t have the full viewership figures on both media.  Anyway, over seventy million viewers had watched the outcome of the polls on television making it the highest number in the history of US presidential polls.

On this day of historic significance, such leading websites as Yahoo News posted an increase in views of their webs.  This was a clear increase over the numbers that visited their sites during the past presidential election polls.  Nielsen monitored the viewership of 14 networks that broadcast election returns.  It was record breaking for almost all the electronic media companies in the history of their existence.

Apart from the cable TV and websites that were broadcasting and streaming 2008 presidential election returns live on their medium of transmission, still other websites catered to the viewership with data on previous elections.  These data were available in the form of maps, statistical reports, and election returns mostly in PDF formats. These were beneficial in making comparisons of election results of the past presidential elections and the 2008 results.

I was rumored that Senator Obama was unwilling to watch election return on cable TV.  He was said to dislike the cable television babble.  Anyhow, this could not stop his supporters from watching election returns of US presidential polls 2008 on TV and webs where Barack Obama came out the victor with a clear majority.  Voters appear to have paid little attention to this characteristic of Obama when casting their votes for Obama.
